OLGA DUEÑAS
Olga Dueñas (born Olga Valasek Dipold in Cleveland, Ohio, 1926) is an American artist renowned for her contributions to geometric abstraction and kinetic art. Her work is distinguished by its exploration of movement, light, and musicality, often incorporating optical effects and precise compositions.
Dueñas's art is characterized by its dynamic interplay of form and motion, often drawing inspiration from musical structures. Her innovative approach has been recognized in numerous exhibitions, including retrospectives at the Museo Nacional del Ecuador and the Museo Antropológico y de Arte Contemporáneo
SCREENS
To carry out the screen printing process, I had to create individual screens for each color in the design, as it involved a two-color print. This required carefully separating the patterns and preparing two different layers—one for each color. I used transparent acetate sheets (commonly used for screen printing exposure) to transfer the designs onto the screens. Additionally, I created precise registration marks and guide lines to ensure that the patterns aligned correctly during printing, allowing for accurate and consistent results across all products.
KUNA WELLNESS & OLGA DUEÑAS SCREEN PRINTING
This project involved recreating patterns and learning how to adapt them to different environments and products. All the patterns were based on works by Olga Dueñas, an Ecuadorian artist and illustrator. Products featuring the patterns were also created for a CBD brand called Kuna.
ARTWORKS BY OLGA DUEÑAS
For this screen printing project, I based my work on four artworks created by Olga Dueñas. From these pieces, I extracted specific patterns and visual elements that served as the foundation for new designs. These designs were then applied to a series of products developed for Kuna Wellness, a family-owned business that offers a line of CBD products. The result is a collection that blends artistic expression with the natural and calming identity of the brand.
PRODUCTS
I developed four different products for this project. First, I designed two distinct packaging concepts for CBD droppers, each incorporating unique patterns derived from Olga Dueñas' artworks. In addition to the packaging, I created a screen-printed design for a T-shirt and another for a tote bag, both reflecting the same visual identity.
